I’m reading a pretty good book called The 33 Strategies of War.
There have been several stories in the book that have been fascinating but the one that has stuck with me so far is of an ancient Japanese fighter named Miyamoto Musashi…He’s famous for never losing a dual and is widely considered to be the greatest Japanese swordsman.
Here’s the short of it:
It highlights his 3 most notable fights…each time, he switched up his fighting style to best defeat his opponent who seemed unbeatable to everyone else…he changed everything from the time and way he arrived to the fight, to the tactics used in the fight, to his demeanor and attitude. He didn’t rest on his reputation of being the best, he kept progressing, kept looking at each new fight as something completely new.
In the same way that Miyamoto switched up his tactics based on his opponent, we’ve got to take on every problem in our every day lives in a different way. We can’t look back at the last victory or defeat and base our current actions solely off of them, because each situation is different.
We can’t live in the past, life is happening NOW! As the book says “Don’t fight the last war”…fight the current one. Let’s win!
